What is a Negotiated Plea?
A negotiated plea is an agreement between a Defendant and the prosecution about exactly what the Defendant will plead guilty to and what the sentence will be. A skilled attorney can help negotiate the best possible plea for their client by pressuring the prosecution and pointing out the flaws in their case through filing motions and having evidentiary hearings.
Some people do not want the risk that comes with going to trial, and therefore many cases end in a negotiated plea. It is important to have a lawyer that knows the ins and outs of the specific charges that you are facing. It is also important to have a lawyer who knows the prosecution (and the judge) so that they can anticipate their next moves.
At The Turner Firm, we don’t push our clients towards a plea. We work to try and get all of the charges dismissed. However, if a plea is in the best interests of our client, then we use our knowledge of the prosecution and the law to negotiate the best outcome possible. Give us a call to discuss how we can use our experience to help you.
